Sri Lanka’s original surf town – Hikkaduwa was the first beach on the island to develop a real surf culture in the 1970s and 80s and while it has grown considerably since then, the reef break is still one of the south coast’s most consistent. The coral sanctuary just offshore draws snorkellers for its resident hawksbill turtles.
