One of the finest natural deep-water harbours in Asia and home to some of the least-crowded beaches in Sri Lanka – Nilaveli and Uppuveli are wide stretches of reef-sheltered water on the east coast with snorkelling at Pigeon Island National Park. Trincomalee’s whale watching season (May to September) complements Mirissa’s, making it the east coast answer to a year-round whale experience.
