Horton Plains is Sri Lanka’s highest protected national park – a cloud forest plateau at 2,100 metres with a 9km circular trail that passes through montane cloud forest, across open moorland and ends at World’s End, a sheer escarpment with a 900-metre drop to the lowland plains below. The combination of the cold pre-dawn drive, the forest trail and the sudden escarpment opening makes this one of Sri Lanka’s most memorable half-days.
