Arugam Bay’s Main Point is one of Asia’s most consistently listed surf breaks – a long right-hander that breaks cleanly on a south swell and can run for several hundred metres on a good day. Board hire and local operators are plentiful and inexpensive and the town’s genuine surf culture makes for a strong social scene between sessions. A boat excursion to Pottuvil Lagoon is a worthwhile afternoon alternative when you want a break from the water.
