Bentota
Sri Lanka’s water sports capital – the Bentota River and the coast either side of the Bentota lagoon deliver jet skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing and the Madu River mangrove safari within a few kilometres of each other. A resort-oriented stretch of coast that works well as a south coast base for families and active travellers.
Negombo
The Dutch colonial fishing town 7km from the airport – the first and last place most visitors to Sri Lanka will see and consistently underestimated. The lagoon fish market at dawn, the Dutch canal network and the Portuguese Catholic church architecture give Negombo a cultural depth that makes it more than just a transit stop.

Arugam Bay
Sri Lanka’s east coast surf capital and one of Asia’s most consistently ranked surf destinations – Main Point delivers a long right-hander that breaks cleanly from May to October, when the south coast is in its off-season. A quiet, backpacker-social town for most of the year that transforms into a surf mecca during peak season.

Galle
